SYNOPSIS:
Right in the courtyard of a Roman palace, just next to the Spanish Steps, lies Otello an old and typical Italian restaurant: immediately after the second World War, this restaurant became the meeting point of a group of young directors and screenwriters, as well as Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli, Federico Fellini, Pierpaolo Pasolini, Gillo Pontecorvo, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luchino Visconti and many others. Among those tables they conceived some of the most beautiful pages of “Neo-realism” and “Commedia all’italiana”. Also actors, directors and writers from the international scene visited the restaurant. “Otello’s secret” celebrates that particular season of the cinema. These and other stories are told by Robert De Niro, Ugo Gregoretti, Elsa Martinelli, Giuliano Montaldo and many others.

Francesco Ranieri Martinotti, director and screenwriter, is one of the founders of the "Venice Days", a collateral section of the Venice Film Festival. Many of his works have been selected in many of the most important international festivals (Cannes, Sundance, Berlino) and have won numerous awards. He has been also member of the EFA Board from 2009 to 2010, chaired by Wim Wenders. He is currently director of the Florence French Film Festival, France Odeon, supported by the Tuscany Region and the Municipality of Florence.
