James Allen is a successful, controlling, thirty-something banker living alone and working in Dublin city at the tail-end of the recession. When a family tragedy occurs at the hands of his employer he decides to take action which forces him to face a terrible childhood secret. Meanwhile, his mysterious co-worker Alison has her own agenda, which puts her on a collision course with James, triggering a dark spiral of deceit, revenge, and murder.

Director Alan Mulligan’s first feature is a deliberate and slow-paced look at modern day greed and desire, and society’s ever-growing need for control.

The Babelics

The Babelics are irregular artists who work outside or at the edge of the art formalization and market to create an imaginary universe of their own. This audio-visual research aims at outlining this anarchic geography bursting with unknown self-learners who devoted their life to art. Their fascinating and unusual stories show us what happens when imagination and abusive creativity meet some incredible men, whose hands transform steel, wood, cement, rubbish, and common materials into a masterpiece. The result is a marvellous art form placed between art brut and a naïve, visionary handcraft.

Tommaso Fontana leaves prison after having served a long prison term. Raised inside a welcoming structure in Livorno, he lived most of his life in captivity. He does not have a family to turn to, or even friends. How can an ex-prisoner without a family, without a home to go, and without a job re-enter socially? It would be easy to think that Tommy does not have any other path than to start commit crimes, but life always reserves some surprises. Tommy is no longer the boy of yore, he is now a better person. In prison, thanks to the meeting with an Indian, he got to approach the teaching of Jiddu Krishnamurti. A lucky encounter that helps Tommy get rid of his conditioning, and reach a certain awareness. An inner strength if we want, that will support him in his most important challenge, begin a new life. The first stages of this journey towards legality, towards freedom, will be full of pitfalls. A path that will lead him unexpectedly very far, towards elsewhere.

Raised in a refugee camp in the West Bank, while her mother was in prison, Walaa is determined to survive basic training to become one of the few women on the Palestinian Security Forces – not easy for a girl who breaks all the rules. Following Walaa from 15 to 21, with an intimate POV and the exuberant energy of its subject, this is the story of a young woman navigating formidable obstacles, learning which rules to break and follow, and disproving the negative predictions from her surroundings and the world at large.

Based on a true story: the young character of Giovanni is scared by a figurine of the nativity scene that his father has shown him the day before the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. After a series of crimes happened in the city of Palermo, the child identifies the figurine with the mafioso Don Tano Filippone. Giovanni is sure: his father is in danger too! Armed with a wooden sword and a musketeer’s harness, Giovanni decides to fight his fears to protect his father. The young Giovanni, when he grows up, will become the italian magistrate Giovanni Falcone.
