Bakosó: Afrobeats of Cuba

“Bakosó” is a film that follows DJ Jigüe to his hometown of Santiago de Cuba to find inspiration from the new sounds. He finds Afrobeats has helped create a new genre called Bakosó, which itself is beautiful proof that the exchange between Cuba and Africa did not end with the Transatlantic slave trade. Through stunning visuals and a score created by the founders of the genre, the film shows the technology, culture and landscape that shape this African-Caribbean fusion.

Rugby, is introduced at juvenile detention centre as special activity for mental and physical development of inmates. The lead character, Nika is faced by a dilemma to sacrifice his authority among the prisoners in favour for the feeling of personal freedom.

The dramatic story of Negative Numbers includes social and moral problems, which exist in modern post-soviet society. The criminal system, which has been the established lifestyle for years, as well as it’s mentality. A lot of people have been victims of this system, especially adolescents, who try to act like adults and do not realize that they have become part of a cruel and violent system. Our society tries to isolate themselves from these “negative” youngsters and thus pushes them towards committing new crimes.

Ciao Anita

This autobiography of Anita Ekberg, the screen legend, was shot in her final months when she was confined to a wheelchair in an old people’s home outside Rome. With a wicked sense of humor she lays bare her soul, alternating between hilarity, sadness, dreams and a wistful longing for that which she never attained on both a professional and personal level. After she passed, the interview and the additional footage did not get edited. Later we decided that Anita – the film star and friend – rightfully deserved to be tributed with “Ciao Anita”.

Your Turn

The feature documentary “Your Turn” depicts the Brazilian student movement from
the protests of 2013 until the election of the new president, Jair Bolsonaro, in 2018.
Inspired by the collective voice of the movement itself, which demanded for better public education and the end of austerity measures, the documentary is narrated by three high school students, who represent central points of their struggle. The narrators’ jostling for space and time exposes the movement’s conflicts and demonstrates its complexity.
