SYNOPSIS:
As the Mississippi River flows past the town of Keokuk, Iowa, towards Hannibal, Missouri, the birthplace of Mark Twain, an antebellum history languishes in the air. Drifting towards the crescent captures the place on the Mississippi River, where the North begins to drift into the South. As the diesel barges ply the waters, the river no longer needs the towns, but the towns still need the river.

BIOGRAPHY:
Laura Stewart, Chicago, is a filmmaker. Preferring to work with non-actors, her films are about the spiraling nature of identity, essentially characters playing themselves, in a cinematic world rooted in documentary. She is interested in places with an aura of the past influencing the present. Her films have screened in several festivals among wich: the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Nominated for the Bright Future Award), Chicago Underground Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Chicago Filmmakers, Motorcycle Film Festival (Best Narrative Feature Award), and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. She received funding for “Drifting towards the crescent” from the Chicago Digital Media Production Fund Grant and her MFA in 2013 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
