Tbilisi, Georgia. April is released after having spent another night in jail for prostitution. April and her fellow sex workers live in a masculine world in which women are a disposable commodity something to vent your anger on. April meets Dije, a young Nigerian immigrant an outsider even among outsiders. He once thought he was on his way to Georgia, USA, but ended up here instead. At the edge of the world where the only option is day-to-day survival, these two souls recognise one anothers lonely journey.

Caffè Sospeso

In Naples there is this tradition that when you go to a bar and ask for a cup of coffee, you pay two instead of one. The other coffee is “suspended” for someone else.
The coffee is the starting point of this film. A trip through three stories of people living in three places of the world very far apart: Naples, New York and Buenos Aires. Thanks to the coffee, they all changed their lives. Thanks to a coffee they made themselves free.

After the death of their mother, Enrico and his newborn brother Dino are separated, due to the family’s poor economic means and the abandonment of their father. Enrico will grow in extreme poverty with his grandmother, while Dino will be adopted by the butler of a mansion and will know a life of greater comfort but affective deprivation. They will meet again during adolescence, and among them a deep bond will born, in which the elder brother Enrico, accustomed to the struggles of life, will try to help the most naive Dino overcome his difficulties.

Born in 1920, Beo narrates. The hills of Montefeltro are the background where episodes of past life – fields, sharecropping, war, resistance, political militancy, emigration – and daily life – kitchen garden, bees, thoughts on the world and mankind are narrated as a tale of personal story and History. A tale of words and images speaking of humanity, dignity and resistance. An original perspective to recall a whole century, the ‘900, through an extraordinary witness.

La muerte en la Alcarria

A land full of stories and memories transformed in an empty landscape. The Cubero Brothers roam the earth and look for their past through the music they play each night to an invisible audience. A mixture of Spanish traditional songs and American bluegrass, their music is both proud and sad. Disregarding all conventional documentary narrative, Fernando Pomares Piñol creates a unique film that stands somehow between a spaghetti western and the melodramas by Emilio El Indio Fernandez. Paying homage to the imagery of John Fords western, as well as Albert Serras highly idiosyncratic road movies and Aki Kaurismäkis musical comedies, the film takes the viewer on a fascinating and surrealistic adventure.
