The Circle

Founded in the early 1940s, the network around the magazine Der Kreis (The Circle) was the only gay organization to survive the Nazi regime. It blossomed during the post-war years into an internationally renowned underground club. Legendary masked balls at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich provided 800 visitors from all over Europe with a secret and safe space to act out their otherness. It is there that timid teacher Ernst Ostertag falls in love with drag star Röbi Rapp. Ernst searches for a way to fight for his gayness to be accepted as normal outside the boundaries of The Circle network without losing his employment as a teacher. Röbi champions the joint fruition of their love. Following a murder in the gay community, violent repression against gay people also endangers The Circle network.

Il docu-film vuole raccontare la storia del popolo Romanes attraverso le immagini di uno scarno, cupo e duro reportage che ritrae le condizioni di vita odierne di questo popolo: i disagi, le aspettative, le discriminazioni e persecuzioni. Nonostante ciò emergono la personalità e lunicità di un popolo libero e il racconto diventa colorato, felice, fatto di musica, ballate, leggende, filastrocche e poesie tramandate da voce a voce da centinaia di anni. Una drammaturgia cucita insieme in un testo dove lepico si scontra con il reale, dove la poesia si scontra con il materiale: il tutto per riportare un viaggio tra lo spaccato dei nostri tempi e la storia e condurre lanalisi di un mondo lontano, per scoprire e conoscere il popolo Romanes e aiutare così lintegrazione, stimolare il rispetto per combattere discriminazione e razzismo.

Cruel

Pierre Tardieu is a part-time worker living in an old house with his sick father. No one is aware of his existence. Pierre is a serial killer. His victims are ordinary people with ordinary lives. Men and women living, working and suffering side by side but never really together, forming a crowd lost in a big city. Cruel is the story of a man who has grown up poorly, of a woman who could have saved him and of a city that is an invisible prison. Cruel is a film noir but above all, there is a dialogue from William Holden in The Wild Bunch by Sam Peckinpah, which is the soul of the film: “We all want to be children again, even the worst of us … especially the worst of us”. This is really where was born Cruel, with its character of melancholic serial killer, pursued by the child he once was.

On the eve of the 68 protests, a young boy unable to accept the way the main power portrayed all its opponents, decided to become a photographer to put things in order. Taking a beautiful picture is an act of faith. Tano D’Amico started a new path which led him at the fore front during the social riots in the 70: the rise of new movements, a generation on the threshold of history, that for the first time entered the history, the hopes, the illusions, the betrayals. Tano didn’t want to forget, this is the reason why today keeps on taking photos of workers, homeless, migrants, the lasts and people taking the streets.

Every year, from January 11th to 18th, the people of Novoli, a small village in Salento (Italy), celebrate Sant’Antonio Abate. There they build a pile of shoots, The Fòcara, that is lit up when liturgical and religious rituals are over, giving hence the start signal to a series of concert, cultural and wine and food meetings: it is the Fòcara Festival that turns from a traditional and religious celebration into an international breath taking event. On this background the voices of Hidetoshi Nagasawa and Emir Kusturica give an exterior point of view on the celebration and on the sane madness of the people.

Filmed during the 2014 siege of Gaza, which left 507 children dead and 3,598 wounded, ‘Born in Gaza’ follows a group of young children (Hamada, Motasem, Bisan, Udai, Rajaf and Mohamed) growing up in a war zone. Its estimated that 400,000 children in Gaza are in desperate need of psychological help. And the violence seems to be self-perpetuating…

Homeless Pawel finds a used film projector in a garbage dump. Pawel decides to take the projector with him and because of its heaviness he asks for help his friend Arnold from the dormitory for homeless people. Arnold helps him, glad of the profits they will get from selling the scrap. Disappointed, he finds out that Pawel wants to keep the projector and try to activate it instead of selling it.
