SYNOPSIS:
Communist, then anarchist, forerunner of feminism, pacifist, stateless from necessity, Maria Occhipinti has tied her fate to the historical events of the We Wont Leave antimilitarist movement, that broke out in Sicily in 1945. Five months pregnant, Maria doesnt hesitate to throw herself in front of the wheels of a military truck to stop the round-up of the young draft dodgers. Because of this dramatic protest she is imprisoned, then confined in Ustica and filed as subversive by the Italian police for life. Condemned without appeal by her own family and by the communist party, she decides to leave Ragusa and travel around the world with her daughter. Thanks to her courageous choices, Maria represents a symbol of the social redemption and of the female emancipation in Italy in the last sixty years.

Luca Scivoletto begins to produce short films during high school by taking part into Festivals such as Arcipelago and Bellaria. After his degree in Cinema and after gaining several experiences as assistant director, in 2004 he directed Ho Deciso (I decided) that won first place at the Shortfilm Festival La 25° Ora. In 2006 he directed Ieri (Yesterday) (Rotterdam International Film Festival, Talent Campus of the Berlin Festival and nomination at 2007 Nastri dArgento). Recently he has focused on documentary, both in scientific fields and by studying for a doctorate in Cinema at the University of Rome La Sapienza. He has also directed Max (2010) and the award-winning A Nord Est (Toward North East) together with Milo Adami. Actually he is working on his first fiction feature film.
