Producers, directors, actors, and screenwriters from across the world have successfully brought this week to life at the Casa del Cinema and the Nuovo Cinema Aquila. Over 120 of the works in competition, 13 prizes awarded by the prestigious jury and 6 special mentions led to great participation from the public, with more than 10,000 spectators and a media presence from Italy and abroad.
This year, the jurors selected the Polish “Courage” by Greg Zglinski, for Best International Feature Film, while the Italian podium belongs to the beautiful “Ristabanna” by Gianni Cardillo and Daniele De Plano, and the New Vision Award to “The Wicked Uncle” by Urs Odermatt.
The Best Foreign Documentary award went to the unique and touching “Love in the Grave” by David Vondracek, while the winner of Best Italian Documentary was “Io Sono Qui” (“I Am Here”) by Emmanuel Exitu, and Special Mention to “Pino Masciari – Storia di un calabrese imprenditore” (“Pino Masciari – Story of a Calabrian Entrepreneur”) by Alessandro Marinelli, for which, along with the protagonist of the film, earned a standing ovation from the audience at the Casa del Cinema.
Additionally, Special Mentions for International Documentaries went to “Girls of Hope”, by Aysegul Selenga Taskent, a splendid social account of the Turkish girls who are denied an access to education, and the eccentric “Meet the Fokkens” by Gabrielle Provaas and Rob Schroder, a story of two women who were Dutch prostitutes in Amsterdam during the ‘50s.
